Lead Renovator Training also teached Lead Abatement classes. These classes are for HUD / EPA Lead Abatement Supervisor & Lead Worker. This class will allow you to work on lead batement jobs thru the government. Also available, are the classes for Lead Inspector & Lead Risk Assessor. These classes teach you how to test for lead on HUD work or any property. The Risk Assessor will learn to identify lead based paint hazards, tell how to fix them, do lead dust wipe samples, and more.

Types of Lead Training Classes are specified below. Please choose your class or call for help.
This course is the EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP), which is a one-day course which provides basic lead-based paint information to contractors who perform renovations, repairs, and painting activities in houses built before 1978 or child-occupied facilities, as required by EPA and the State of Michigan. Course topics include: lead characteristics, uses, health effects on adults and children, lead-safe work practices to minimize lead containing dust during work activities, negative lead assessments, clean up procedures, post-cleaning verification, personal protection equipment, training of non-certified workers, and documentation. Includes course exam. Successful completion of this course and award of the traiining certificate qualifies the tranee as a Certified Renovator.
EPA required, by April 22, 2010, for all contractors who work in pre-1978 housing and child occupied facilities, including: renovation contractors, maintenance workers in multi-family housing, painters, building supervisors & landlords, homeowners who are planning to remodel, and other specialty trades (plumbers, heating & cooling, electricians).
We offer two (2) different courses:
First, the day long (8 hour) training seminar will provide a certificate to individuals
Second, the ½ day (4 hour) training seminar for current certified Lead Supervisors
all of who will become designated as “EPA Certified Lead Renovators”

The Certified Lead Renovator:
* Each of these 2 courses are approved for builders continuing education credit hours.
The OSHA Lead Awareness course is a 2 hour intoductory course explaining the basic information regarding lead exposures. The purpose of the course is to provide workers who work on and around lead materials (paint, solder, chemicals, etc...) enough information to identify materials they work with that may potentially contain lead and allow them to protect themselves accordingly. Trades that may need this course include: anyonewho works with commercial or older residential paints, construction or demolition workers, employees who weld, torch cut, sand-blast, rivet, etc. This course topics include: background information on lead, health effects, building materials that may contain lead, what to do when encountering potential lead materials, personnel protection equipment (including respirator requirements), medical surveillance, and safe work practices to avoid lead exposures.
This course meets requirements for continuing education credits.
Lead Abatement Worker ~ Initial:
The Lead Abatement Worker - Initial Course is an EPA/State of Michigan accredited course which is required of those who wish to perform lead abatement activities in "targeted housing" or "child occupied facilities" within the State of Michigan. The course if 3 days (24 hours) in length, and teaches the fundamentals of perfroming lead abatement activities at an entry level. There is no minimum education or experience requirments to take this course. Includes a course exam.
The course topics include: background information on lead, health effects, lead removal and containment methods, cleaning up after the lead projects, personal protection equipment, waste disposal, etc... Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to become certified as a Lead Abatement Worker through the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), Healthy Homes Section. Completion of this course is required to be eligible for State certification as Lead Abatement Worker. MDCH also requires that applicanets pay a seperate certification fee and a third-party exam fee for certification. Please note that a certified Lead Abatement Worker is required by Michigan regulations to be under the direct supervision of a certified Lead Abatement Supervisor.
Lead Worker - Refresher:
This EPA / State of Michigan course is required for all certified lead abatement workers every three (3) years to keep thir certification. This is an EPA-accedited one day (8 hour) course refreshing students on the fundementals of performing lead abatement activities. The course topics include: background information on lead, health effects, lead removal and containment methods, cleaning up after lead projects, personal protection equipment, waste disposal, etc... Additionally, this course will assist students on keeping up with the current changes within the industry and new requirements from federal or state regulations. Includes a course exam.
Students who take this course must be currently certified through an EPA approved program as a Lead Abatement Worker. Upon completion of this course, students must send their training certificate and fees to the MDCH - Healthy Homes Section and pass the third-party examination to continue their certification as Lead Workers. Please note that certification as a Lead Abatement Worker for one year qualifies individuals for certification as Lead Abatement Supervisors, upon completion of the Supervisor refresher course (see below) in lieu of the Lead Worker refresher.
Lead Supervisor - Initial:
The Lead Abatement Supervisor Initial Course is an EPA / State of Michigan accredited course which is required of those who wish to perform, supervise, and manage lead abatement activites in "targeted housing" or "child-occupied facilities" within the State of Michigan. The course is four days (32 hours) in length and teaches the fundamentals of performing lead abatement activities, as well as detailed requirements for managing lead abatement projects. Please note that to become a certified Lead Abatement Supervisor, applicants must also be able to document either (1) one year experience as a Lead Abatement Worker or (2) years experience in a related field (lead, asbestos, environmental remediation or building trades), in addition to successful completion of high school or equivalent.
The course topics include: all the basic information included in the Worker course (such as background information on lead, health effects, lead removal and containment methods, cleaning up after lead projects, personal protective equipment, waste disposal), plus additional information regarding leagal liabilities, insuracne requirements, contract specifications, OSHA & EPA requirements, supervision, and management techniques. Includes exam for course.
Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to become certified as a Lead Abatement Supervisor through MDCH Healthy Homes Section. MDCH requires that the student pay the required fees for both a third-party exam and their State certification.
Lead Supervisor - Refresher:
The EPA / State of Michigan course is required for all Lead Abatement Supervisors every three (3) years to keep thier certification. This is an EPA accrediated one day (8 hour) course refreshing students on the fundamentals of performing lead abatement activities. Topics include: background information on lead, health effects, lead removal and containment methods, cleaning up after lead projects, personal protective equipment, waste disposal, legal liabilities, insurance requirements, contract specifications, OSHA & EPA requirements, etc. Additionally, this course will assist students on keeping up with the current changes within the industry and new requirements from federal or state regulations. Includes a course exam.
Students who take this course must be currently certified through an EPA approved program as a Lead Supervisor. Upon completion of this course, students will send their certificate and fees to the MDCH - Healthy Homes Section and must pass the third-party certification examination to continue their certification as a Lead Supervisor.
Lead Abatement Inspector - Initial:
The Lead Inspector initial course is EPA / State of Michigan accredited and is required for those who wish to perform lead inspections in the State of Michigan. This three day (24 hour) course teaches the requiremnts of performing lead inspections in "targeted housing" or "child-occupied facilities". The course topics include: background information on lead, health effects, tyes of lead materials, identification of lead containment materials in buildings, XRF sampling, paint chip and dust sampling methods, clearance examination procedures, and report generation. Includes course exam.
Upon completion of this course, students are eligiable to become certified as a Lead Inspector through MDCH Heathly Homes Section. MDCH requires that the student pay the required fees for both a third-party certification exam and their State Certificate. Successful completion of high school of equivalent is required for this course, no other previous experience is necessary.
Lead Inspector - Refresher:
This EPA / State of Michigan course is required for all Lead Inpectors every three (3) years to keep certified. This is an EPA based course (8 hours) refreshing students on the fundamentals of performing lead inspections within "targeted housing" or "child occupied facilities". The course topics include: baskground information on lead, health effects, types of lead materials, location of lead materials in buildings, XRF, paint chip, dust, and soil sampling methods, adn report generation. Additionally, this course will assist students on keeping up with the current changes within the industry and new requirments from federal or state regulations. Includes a course exam.
Students who take this course must be currenlty certified through and EPA approved program as a Lead Inspector. Upon completion of this course, students will send their certificate and fees to the MDCH - Healthy Homes Section and must pass the State third-party certification exam to continue their certification as a Lead Inspector.
Lead Risk Assessor - Initial:
The Lead Risk Assessor Initial Course is EPA / State of Michigan accredited and required for those who wish to perform lead risk assessments in the State of Michigan. This 2 day (16 hour) course teaches the requirements of performing lead risk assessments in "targeted housing" or "child occupied facilities". The course topics include: reviewing lead inspection information, detailed review of homes to identifiy potentil lead hazards, a review of dust, soil, and water sampling from the insepctor course, methods followed to evaluate hazards and paint within the building, developing stategies to allow building owners to reduce lead exposures and report generation.. Includes a course exam.
Please note that to become a certified Lead Risk Assessor, applicants must be able to document one of the following:
Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to become certified as a Lead Risk Assessor through MDCH Healthy Homes Section. Certification as a Risk Assessor requires successful completion of both the Inspector and Risk Assessor courses, as well as payment of fees for both disciplines and passing a combined Inspector-Risk Assessor third-party certification examination.
Lead Risk Assessor - Refresher:
This EPA / State of Michigan accredited course is required for all lead risk assessors every three (3) years to keep certified. This is a one day (8 hour) course refreshing students on the fundamentals of performing lead risk assessments within "targeted housing" or "child occupied facilities". The course topics include: reviewing lead inspection information, detailed review of homes to identify potential lead risks, a review of dust, soil, and water sampling from the inspector course, methods followed to evaluate hazards and paint within the building, developing strategies to allow building owners to reduce lead exposures and report generation. Additinally, this course will assist students on keeping up with the current changes within the industry and new requirements from federal or state regulations. Includes a course exam.
Students must currently be certified through an EPA approved program as both a Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor and must take both refresher classes (inspector and risk assessor) to remain certified as a Risk Assessor. Upon completion of this course, students will send their traning certificate and fees to the MDCH - Lead and Healthy Homes Section to take the third-party certification exam to continue their State / EPA certification as Lead Inspector - Risk Assessor.
Asbestos Awareness Course - 2 Hour:
This is a required training course yearly for all contractors who may enounter asbestos. Asbestos can be found many places so I'm sure this includes you. Some examples of areas that could contain or do contain asbestos, ie. Siding, roofing, drywall, plaster, flooring, insulation, & more. Is it a "Presumed Asbestos Containing Material" or an "Asbestos Containing Material"? Is is "Friable or Non-Friable"? Learn how to properly handle asbestos when you encounter it, learn where it came from, how it's made,why it was used, and so much more. The more you learn the more you earn. This 2 Hr Asbestos Awareness class is availble at our training centers, at you business, or soon ON-LINE!!!

The OSHA Asbestos Awareness course is a two hour intorductory course explaining the basic information regarding asbestos. The purpose of this course is to provide workers who work around (but not with) asbesrtos materials enough information to identify materials they work with that may potentially contain asbestos and allow them to verify the asbestos content before they disturb the material and cause as asbestos release episode.The course topics include: background information on asbestos, health effects, building materials that may contain asbestos, what to do when encountering potential asbestos materials, and how to clean up minor asbestos disturbance.
AHERA - Asbestos Operations and Maintenacne Course - 16 Hour:
This course is designed to allow in-house workers (employed directly by the building owner for custodial or maintenacne work) to perfrom minor asbestos removal operations as part of a required maintenacne operation. The course is similar to the asbestos worker course but focuses on glove bag removal of small amounts of material (> 3 lnft) for operation needs only. The course topics include: background information on asbestos, health effects, asbestos glove-bag removal, cleaning up after asbestos projects, personal protective equipment, waste disposal, etc... Includes course exam.
Please Note: Outside contractors may not take this course as a way to remove asbestos in buildings where they work or avoid becoming a licensed asbestos contractor.
OSHA - Material Specific Non-Friable Removal Course - 8 or 12 Hour:
Those who successfully complete this course are qualified onl to address certain types of non-fiable asbestos containing materials (ACM), such as floor tile and roofing. They would not be able to address any friable ACM, such as asbestos containing insulation, pipe materials, drywall compound, etc.. This course was developed by OHSA in response to a lawsuit from the flooring manufacturers. This certification allows flooring and roofing contractors to avoid having to become a full asbestos contractors but requires them to follow very specific removal techniques and document the applicability of the standard. The course topics include: background information on asbestos, health effects, material specific asbestos removal methods, cleaning up asfter asbestos projects, personal protective equipment, waste disposal, documentation for OSHA, etc...
The course is eight (8) hours for workers performing labor with a twelve (12) hour supervisor overseeing the project and completing all the required documentation. Please note that while this class will sllow the contractor to remove one specific material without being licensed, they must still follow applicable asbestos removal techniques or face potential regulatory citations.
Asbestos Contractor Supervisor Initial Course - 40 Hour:
The Asbestos Supervisor Contractor Initial course is EPA / State of Michigan required course in order to supervise and manage asbestos abatement activities within the State of Michigan. This is an EPA based five day (40 hour) course teaching teh detailed requirements for managing asbestos abatement activities. The course topics include all the basic information inclided in a worker course plus additional information regarding supervision and management techniques. Additional Topics include: background information on asbestos, health effects, asbestos removal and containment methods, cleaning up after asbestos projects, personal protective equipment, waste disposal, legal liabilities, insurance requirements, contract specifications, OSHA & EPA requirements, etc.. Upon completion of this course, students may opt to send certificate and fees to the State of Michigan to become a State / EPA Certified Asbestos Supervisor Contractor. Includes state approved exam for certification.
Asbestos Contractor Supervisor Refresher Course - 8 hour:
This EPA / State of Michigan course is required for all asbestos abatement supervisors on an annual basis to keep certified. This is an EPA based one day (8 hour) course refreshing students on the fundamentals of performing asbestos abatement activities. Topics include: background information on asbestos, health effects, asbestos removal and containment mehtods, cleaning up after asbestos projects, personal protective equipment, waste disposal, legal liabilities, insurance requirments, contract specifications, OSHA & EPA requirements, etc.. Additionally, this course will assist students on keeping up with the curret chnages within the industry and new requirements from federal or state regulations. Includes State approved exam for certification. Upon completion of this course, students will send certificate and fees tot he State of Michigan to continue their State / EPA certification as asbestos abatement supervisors.
Must currently be certified through an EPA approved program as an Asbestos Supervisor. Following refresher training, student shall submit certificate and fees to MDLEG for re-certification.
Asbestos Inspector Refresher Course - 4 Hour:
This EPA / State of Michigan course is required for all asbestos inspectors on an annual basis to keep certified. This is an EPA based one half day (4 hour) course refreshing students on the fundamentals of performing asbestos inspections within public, commercial and school buildings. The course topics include: background information on asbestos, health effects, types of asbestos materials, location of asbestos materials in buildings, sampling methods, and report generation. Additionally, this course will assist students on keeping up with the current changes within the industry and new requirements from federal or state regulations. Upon completion of this course, students will send certificate and fees to the State of Michigan to continue their State/EPA certification as asbestos abatement Inspectors.

This is your manditory 60 Hour pre-license class for all new Michigan Builders. Yes, you must take this course to apply to be a builder in the State of Michigan. Become a knowledgable contractor. When you learn more you earn more.
What You Need To Know:
You need to have a builders license to do most anything in the state that involves contracting.
You must also have continuing education to keep your license. But did you know that no certificate is turned over or sent to the State of Michigan. You just must keep the builders continuing education certificate on file for 5 years. The State of Michigan may audit your records and ask you to produce it. You also MUST have a current copy of the Michigan Residential Building Code book, be aware there are 2 code books for residential. You have the Michigan Residential Building Code & the Michigan Residential Rehabilitation Code books, please know the difference and how to apply them to your job.

Michigan Builders Training, LLC offers the 60 Hour Pre-License Training Course.
Calendar:
School will have classes as posted on website or class advertising to meet 60 Hours class requirements. Programs are taught in modules; therefore classes are continually beginning. Classes are held Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening classes are available from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
School will be closed on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the following Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Years Eve. The school will not be open the week between Christmas and New Years.
Enrollment Dates and Entrance Requirements for Each Program:
Enrollment Requirements – Certificate of Completion:
Enrollment is conducted by Michigan Builders Training, LLC. It is a preferred requirement to register one week in advance for any class offered for preparation and confirmation purposes. Programs are taught in modules; therefore enrollment is continuous.
All students will be awarded a certificate of completion upon attendance of all the course sessions.
Students must have a high school diploma or GED. Students under the age of 18 must have the signed permission of a parent or legal guardian.
Credit Allowed for Previous Education and Training:
Students may provide a transcript indicating previous education ad completion of a specific module and may test out of certain portions of the program. The final decision is made by the school director.
Previous Training or Education:
No previous builder training or education is required for attendance at any course seminar.
Policies relative to absences, leaves, and tardiness, make-up work and suspension for unsatisfactory work or attendance and re-entrance conditions:
Attendance is crucial to successful completion of the programs; therefore no more than three absences will be accepted. For each absence, the student is expected to arrange a make-up session to complete the work that was missed. Three tardies constitute one absence. Students who do not adhere to the policies regarding attendance may be suspended and may only be readmitted upon the director’s approval.
Rules of Student Conduct:
Students must not disrupt the lectures or create a disturbance that prevents others from learning. Abusive language, disruptive behavior, being under the influence of alcohol or harmful substances during class will be cause for dismissal. If a student is dismissed from class for the above reasons, all fees will be forfeited.
Michigan Builders Training, LLC has a policy of non-discrimination based on age, sex, race, religion, ethnic origin or education.
Grading System and Reentrance Conditions:
The grading system is a pass/fail system. Students’ assignments are evaluated after each module. If a student is having trouble in an area, additional help is available. If class work is not completed, the student risks suspension and may only be readmitted upon the director’s approval. Once class work and tests have been completed, a certification of completion test is available for each program module.
Graduation Requirements and type(s) of Certificate(s) or Diploma(s) Issued:
The student must complete all coursework modules and take the respective test for each module. Once this is done, a certificate of completion will be awarded to the student.

Refund Policy:
Class Withdrawal/Cancellation Policy
If a student withdraws up to 7 days before the start of the class, the student shall be entitled to a full refund of the tuition charged and paid for the class.
If a student withdraws between 6 days and 24 hours prior to the start of the class, the student shall be entitled to a full refund of the tuition charged less a cancellation fee of $300 for prelicense classes and $25 for continuing competency classes.
If a student withdraws within 24 hours prior to the start of the class the student shall be obligated for the tuition charged for the entire instructional program and shall not be entitled to a full refund.
* The tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if the applicant is rejected by the school before enrollment. An application fee of not more than $25.00 may be retained by the school if the applicant is denied. All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if requested within 3 business days after signing a contract with the school. All refunds shall be returned within 30 days. If a student withdraws between 6 days and 24 hours prior to the start of the class, the student shall be entitled to a full refund of the tuition charged less a cancellation fee of $300 for prelicense classes and $25 for continuing competency classes.

Programs:
Michigan Builders Training, LLC has a policy of non-discrimination based on age, sex, race, religion, ethnic origin or education.
Students must not disrupt the lectures or create a disturbance that prevents others from learning. Abusive language, disruptive behavior, being under the influence of alcohol or harmful substances during class will be cause for dismissal. If a student is dismissed from class for the above reasons, all fees will be forfeited.
All students are expected to conduct themselves in an adult manner. Students who violate these conditions may be expelled and not readmitted.

The student must complete all coursework modules and take the respective test for each module. Once this is done, a certificate of completion will be awarded to the student.

The grading system is a pass/fail system. Students’ assignments are evaluated after each module. If a student is having trouble in an area, additional help is available. If class work is not completed, the student risks suspension and may only be readmitted upon the director’s approval. Once class work and tests have been completed, a certification of completion test is available for each program module.

Attendance is crucial to successful completion of the programs; therefore no more than three absences will be accepted. For each absence, the student is expected to arrange a make-up session to complete the work that was missed. Three tardies constitute one absence. Students who do not adhere to the policies regarding attendance may be suspended and may only be readmitted upon the director’s approval.

No previous builder training or education is required for attendance at any course seminar.
Previous Training or Education:
Students may provide a transcript indicating previous education ad completion of a specific module and may test out of certain portions of the program. The final decision is made by the school director.
Credit Allowed for Previous Education and Training:
Students must have a high school diploma or GED. Students under the age of 18 must have the signed permission of a parent or legal guardian.
All students will be awarded a certificate of completion upon attendance of all the course sessions.
Enrollment is conducted by Michigan Builders Training, LLC. It is a preferred requirement to register one week in advance for any class offered for preparation and confirmation purposes. Programs are taught in modules; therefore enrollment is continuous.

School will be closed on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the following Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Years Eve. The school will not be open the week between Christmas and New Years.
School will have classes as posted on website or class advertising to meet 60 Hours class requirements. Programs are taught in modules; therefore classes are continually beginning. Classes are held Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening classes are available from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Your EPA Certified Renovator training can be used to count towards builders con-ed in Michigan & Minnesota.

You must also have continuing education to keep your license. But did you know that no certificate is turned over or sent to the State of Michigan. You just must keep the builders continuing education certificate on file for 5 years. The State of Michigan may audit your records and ask you to produce it. You also MUST have a current copy of the Michigan Residential Building Code book, be aware there are 2 code books for residential. You have the Michigan Residential Building Code & the Michigan Residential Rehabilitation Code books, please know the difference and how to apply them to your job.
You need to have a builders license to do most anything in the state that involves contracting.

Mold Remediation is the process of isolating, removing and/or cleaning materials that have microbial contamination. This course is approved for 24 hours as professional development.
